Sometimes, and as is often the case, the basics are some of the most critical aspects of your business. Many of you have Facebook pages for your business. As many of you already know, Facebook launched vanity URLs for personal profiles as well – so rather than a string of numbers you were allowed your name – for example http://facebook.com/marcpsummers

They said at the same time you could have a vanity URL for your ‘pages’ too as long as you had over a 1,000 fans. This upper limit has now been reduce to just 25 fans! Take a look at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Marc-P-Summers-SEO-Trainer/41535111016 and see how easy it is to become a fan – or even create your own ‘page’ for your business – this will become another arm in your social and business networking strategy.

So instead of having http://www.facebook.com/pages/Marc-P-Summers-SEO-Trainer/41535111016 you can have http://www.facebook.com/seotrainer

I would love you to become a fan of my SEO Trainer facebook page

Imagine if your business was the first thing to come to mind when your ideal customers are looking for a product, service or idea your company offers. How does this happen? Branding – plain and simple. When most of us want to look up some information on the internet, we don’t say ‘search the web’; instead, we use the brand most associated with doing that action and say, ‘just Bing it’. Wait, no, that’s not right, no one uses Bing. Of course, ‘just Google it’ is the most common phrase because Google is the most widely used and has the most ‘Top of Mind’ effect, also known as ‘Brand Eminence’.

Today, we’re going to take a quick look at some great things to keep in mind as your brand is being crafted (hint: it’s ALWAYS being crafted!).

1. Stand out and be unique in the marketplace! Know what sets you apart from competitors and capitalize on those differences. For example, Automated Marketing is essentially a web development company. However, we specialise in the area of Infusionsoft consultancy, email marketing automation and API integration with Infusionsoft. For those of you in the Infusionsoft CRM world, you know that there are a number of other companies out there who offer similar services. What what makes us unique in that particular niche? Well, we’re UK-based, have a fantastic track record of testimonials, offer unique Infusionsoft services and have over 18 years of internet consultancy experience. These additional factors make us the clear winner when looking for Infusionsoft-related services, and experience in peripheral fields of internet consultancy. As you examine your businesses ask yourself, “What is my USP – Unique Selling Point?”

2. Be Exciting! If you’ve ever seen Automated Marketing exhibitions, you know that everyone knows who we are and wants to know what we’re about. All of our booths have multiple eye-catching visuals – whether it be balloons, videos, or unique stands that look like street corners. We make things exciting and memorable for the attendees because we know the next time we see them they have a reference to us of, “Yes, you were the large booth with all the balloons and toolboxes.

3. Be interesting! Offer products that are fun, interesting and most of all add MASSIVE value to the users. As a business to business service provider, we are constantly looking for new ways to add value to our clients and expanding our product line. For example, we’ve recently launched our Event Buddy system, an IMAP tool and our ZenCart Infusionsoft integration tool. Event Buddy is making waves in the training and seminar industry and our ZenCart tool is a hit.

There is enough out there on branding to go on for days but if you just FOCUS on these three things, you will begin to see HUGE results in your businesses.

Thanks for reading and be sure to share and tell your friends!

I was recently on holiday in Spain near Cadiz and we went to a local market where I saw an item I can never walk past – Crystalised Fruit. I used my fluent Spanish (pointing and gesturing at what I wanted showing the portion size with my hands!) and ordered some pineapple and kiwi. While weighing my goods, he passed me some crystalised cranberries (something I had never tried before) to taste. Soon I was hooked and immediately ordered some of that too.

This small period of time, in an unexpected place, reminded me that upselling is so important – it will ensure money is not left on the table when making a deal. An upsell is an opportunity to add more value to your customer’s life. I didn’t know crystalised cranberries existed before he offered me the upsell and within just a few minutes I was HAPPILY purchasing more of the delicious fruit. If you know that your product or service will add value and benefit to the people who are ALREADY buying from you, then consider it an obligation to provide maximum value to your clients and at least OFFER it. The more value they receive from you, the happier they are and more likely they are to become repeat customers who refer business to you!

If a market stall holder selling fruit can do this successfully, then top Internet Marketers like you should be able to put this into action in your business. What products of yours are complementary to one another? I use the InfusionSoft system for all my sales and marketing – and using the API I have written, some great 1-click up-sell order forms for InfusionSoft which work very well for this situation.

Have a think – where will upselling work in your business; online and offline.

Thanks for reading and if you found this of value, please be sure to share and let your friends know!

Here are a few tasks and areas that you should consider each month, to ensure that you keep on top of your optimisation. Turn them into an action plan, and review them regularly.

Keywords - target mid-range keywords that have less competition yet are still relevant to your site. Also check out both mass-market and niche competitors, to see which keywords to use and which to avoid (niche keywords might produce little opportunity for your site).

Competitor Analysis – tools like trends.google.com and www.compete.com can help you to identify key operators in your market. Analyse the homepages of their sites to see whether you can utilise anything to improve your own ranking.

Products and Services - you should regularly review your portfolio to see if you are missing any opportunities to add something that might bring in new business – not just more of the same offers you already have!

Twitter – if you’re not there, then think about getting a presence. Use tracking links in your tweets to monitor the clicks you’re getting, and make sure you post some tweets that are not pure marketing. It does no harm to show a human side once in a while!

Multimedia – turn some of your articles or blog posts into video, and post them on your site and also on YouTube.

Site Content – you should be adding keyword posts every day. Make sure you have balanced content in terms of text and links, and design pages with the most important information at the top.

However you plan to maximise your marketing efforts, when it comes to SEO, it should always start with the basics – keywords. There are two large basic disciplines that people follow when working with keywords, either they become one with the many and use the most popular keywords for their market, or they seek words that are associated, but nobody else is using (hint hint!)

Think about it – a successful keyword is successful because it attracts a lot of attention. These keywords will be fierce competition because everyone is gunning for the top five words in a given market. But what about the words ranked, say, six to ten, or eleven to twenty? Quite often, by looking at these words, you can gain a strong foothold in the market, leading to some real benefits.

Research has shown more than once that the search volumes for the top five terms in a market are lower than the search volumes for all the lower ranked words combined. Here’s a method to follow:

1. Rank the keywords - you’ll already have this (hopefully) for your market sector. If you haven’t, then Google’s Keyword Tool is the place to go.

2. Find the major players in the market, and cross-reference them with the keywords. When you find a company featuring high up on certain keywords, but lower ranked on others, then it’s clear which keywords they are investing time and effort into chasing.

3. Find the little guys – the niche listings – some of whom will be specialising on the less popular keywords. Check out their sites and see if they are making an effort, and you can assess the competition you are likely to face.

4. Go for it! You should now have identified some areas where the big players are not interested, the niche players are not particularly numerous or active, and where a bit of targeted effort on your part can reap rich rewards.

Thanks for reading, I hope you found it informative and useful. Now, go out and implement what you’ve learned and pump up those sales! That’s all for today, but feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you would like to see more of.

Why automate your business?

Time leverage
How much is your time worth? For many business owners today, time is of the essence. There are only so many hours in a day and as a business owner, your time should be spent doing what you do best – making money for your business. Your time can best be leveraged by having employees and systems in place that take care of the day to day, non-income-generating activities. It doesn’t make sense as a business owner to spend your whole day responding to emails that don’t generate income and that can be delegated.

Systems
Ray Kroc understood this concept of leverage and the importance of systems right from the start. Ray Kroc is the man who is considered the father of the global fast food empire, McDonalds. Kroc didn’t order, make, manage and sell millions of hamburgers by the sweat of his own brow. He created a series of systems that would act as the operations guide for McDonalds all around the world. The burgers cook at a precise temperature for an exact amount of time, the french fries, all around the world, come from the same potato farm in the United States. It is because of all these easy-to-follow, simple, and automatic systems that a global multi-billion dollar a year company is effectively run by teenagers.
In the age of internet businesses, automation scripts are the internet’s version of a teenager who is there to follow directions and run your business, automatically. When someone shows interest or orders a product from your website, automation scripts initiate the follow-up sequence keeping the prospect or customer engaged. The more a customer is engaged with your products, service or ideas, the more likely they will make a purchase and come back as a repeat customer.

Four factors determine how many people an organization employs:
1. How many people are required to do the work.
2. How much work the systems can remove from the people.
3. How many people are needed to support the people using the systems
4. How many people are needed to support the systems

Online businesses have a wide range of work to be done in order to keep the business moving forward. This doesn’t mean however, that many employees are necessary. When the proper automation processes are in place, less employees are needed. There will always be a place in business for employee interaction and an online business no different. If a prospect or customer has specific questions unique to them, there should be enough people to support the systems in place.

Benefits of automation:
Alleviate your admin work
Increase accuracy and processing of orders
Ensure Customer Satisfaction
Reduce Workforce Training Time
Become a More Flexible Business
